What “free” actually means here
Every trainer app promises “free”. Usually that means fourteen days and then a credit card — or a trial with exactly the thing you wanted to try locked out. Here is our list, complete, so you do not have to go hunting for it.
This is free, permanently
- 60 training minutes a month — the counter resets on the first of the month, forever.
- Every mode. No premium-mode lock: Arcade, Watt Defense, Time Trial, Zone 2 — all rideable. The limit is the time, never the door.
- Fair leaderboards by W/kg class, including ghost racing against your own best times.
- Trainer and sensor pairing over Bluetooth (FTMS): power, heart rate, cadence.
- Story of the Week — a curated story ride, every week.
- Export of your rides as FIT/TCX, and sync to Intervals.icu and Strava.
- No credit card. Nowhere in the free tier is a payment method stored.
This costs — and exactly this
Ride more than 60 minutes a month and it is from €7.99 a month (Breakaway), or €14.99 a month (Directeur, everything included — story editor and track builder). Yearly is cheaper. That is the entire model — no coins, no loot boxes, no “pro feature” that turns out to sit behind a second gate.
Why 60 minutes and not unlimited?
Because servers, leaderboards and sync cost real money, and we would rather name an honest limit than say “free” and hide the bill somewhere else. Sixty minutes is four to five real sessions — enough to know for certain whether Pixel Watts is your training.
Look in without an account?
You can: the demo stage rides without signing up, straight in the browser. And you can recompute the physics behind it on the public proof bench before you invest a single minute. app.pixelwatts.com/demo · /physics
Account in a minute, Google or Apple sign-in, no card. Your 14 free days start when you finish your first ride — not today.
