Zwift vs Rouvy
At its core this is a matter of taste with two honest answers: Zwift builds a fantasy world with the biggest field of riders, Rouvy films real roads and renders you onto them. Both are simulations — if that is not what you are after, the third option is at the bottom.
The case for Zwift
Zwift is the social centre of indoor cycling: the largest live field, racing and group rides around the clock, and Watopia as a world of its own with roads that exist nowhere else. It costs €19.99 a month (as of August 2026); the free tier covers 25 km a month. If racing many real people is the point, this is the place.
The case for Rouvy
Rouvy rides on video instead of graphics: real, filmed roads — Alpe d'Huez, the Stelvio, coastal routes — with your avatar rendered into the picture by augmented reality. For dreaming of real places it is unbeatable. It costs €179.99 a year on the single plan (as of August 2026, rouvy.com); the free tier covers 20 km a month.

The honest verdict
After racing, groups and the full social ecosystem: Zwift. Want to see real places and mostly ride alone or in a small field: Rouvy — and on the yearly plan it is noticeably cheaper than Zwift. Both are mature simulations; you go wrong with neither.
So when is Pixel Watts the answer?
When “simulation” is precisely the problem. Pixel Watts is an arcade game: worlds that can only exist in a game, Watt Defense to hold, stories to ride — with real physics you can recompute on a public proof bench, and fair W/kg leaderboards. Straight in the browser, no download, sixty minutes a month free forever, then from €7.99 a month — half to a third of the other two.
