Pixel Watts with Tacx trainers
Tacx smart trainers (NEO, Flux, Flow Smart …) are verified end to end with Pixel Watts — not “should work”, but actually ridden: pairing, ERG, simulation, whole sessions.
- FTMS over Bluetooth: power, cadence, resistance.
- ERG workouts and the FTP test run with automatic resistance control.
- Older models work too, as long as they offer FTMS over Bluetooth.
Riding in three minutes
- Close the Tacx Training app (and every other trainer app) — the trainer accepts only one controlling connection.
- Open app.pixelwatts.com in Chrome or Edge (or the Mac/iPad app) and go to “Pair”.
- Pedal briefly so the trainer transmits, then choose “Smart Trainer” — it appears under its Tacx name.
- Optionally add heart rate and cadence sensors, Bluetooth as well.
- Ride — the demo stage needs no account.
Common Tacx questions
Which Tacx models work?
NEO and Flux machines are verified ridden; in general every model that speaks FTMS over Bluetooth works — which all Tacx smart trainers of recent years do, the Flow Smart included.
My trainer does not show up in the list — why?
Almost always: another app (Tacx Training, Zwift) is holding the connection, or the trainer is asleep. Close apps, pedal once, search again. And Web Bluetooth works in Chrome/Edge, not Safari — on an iPad use the iPad app.
Does Pixel Watts simulate gradients on the NEO?
Yes — in simulation mode the app sets resistance from real physics: gradient, weight, air resistance. You can recompute the numbers on the public proof bench.
Do I need ANT+?
No. Pixel Watts runs entirely over Bluetooth (FTMS); the ANT+ dongle stays in the drawer.
